Choose 2 Reading Program Choices:

MindPlay is an Orton-Gillingham based reading program that fills in phonics skill gaps, grammar for meaning, builds fluency with comprehension, and vocabulary.

Lexia Core5™ works on all the core reading skills.

  • phonological awareness
  • phonics
  • fluency
  • comprehension
  • vocabulary.

We recommend  spending 2 to 5 minutes in each of the 5 assigned activities each day.  This program continues on up through 5th-grade level.

Lexia PowerUp Literacy is designed for 6th-grade and up students to fill in K-8th+ skills. While it officially only goes through 8th-grade level skills, many adults would say they never learned many of the more advanced skills until high school, if ever. Students separately place into each of the three strands. 10 to 15 minutes 2 to 3 times per week are recommended based on placement.

  • Word Study—fills in any K-5th phonics gaps and then moves on to more advanced Greek and Latin word parts
  • Grammar—lays foundations needed for basic grammar and then teaches more complex grammar skills
  • Reading Comprehension—teaches students deeper comprehension such as how to analyze a text and identify elements of the author’s craft

Reading Plus has three sections which address:

  • fluency and comprehension (SeeReader) 12-20 minutes
  • vocabulary (ReadAround) 7-12 minutes
  • eye-tracking exercises to improve visual tracking (iBalance) 0-10 minutes

Choose 2-5 Supplemental Program Choices:

InferCabulary provides a visual approach to learning vocabulary. Students are motivated by the gamification built in. We recommend about 10 minutes daily.

Spelling Tutor–For students who have not yet mastered the top 1000 most common words that make up 90% of the words in written English, we start in Spelling Tutor.

Dyslexia Gold includes 3 elements and you can use any or all of these that fit: Engaging Eyes (visual training to help the eyes better work together for reading) and Spelling Tutor (targets top 1000 most common words which make up 90% of written English).

Moby Max is excellent for filling in skill gaps up through the 8th grade level. It starts with diagnostic placement assessments and then provides mini-lessons and short practice sets to address any skills not mastered.

Typing Club builds important typing skills for our modern world.

Headsprout Early Reading® provides focused skill instruction at the K-mid-2nd-grade level. Most kids find Headsprout® to be fun! We recommend doing a teaching episode one day and reading the Sprout Story the next day. Beginning readers can start reading Sprout Stories start after the first five interactive teaching episodes. At that point, they’ve enough letters and a couple sight words for their very first book! They build confidence as readers as they can immediately apply their new skills to a colorful book that only uses skills the program has previously taught.

RAZ Plus® provides leveled books for practice. Our recommended usage is in the reading assignments to read along 1-3x with a book, then read it yourself, then answer the comprehension questions. If you have a headset, doing a practice recording provides another reason to read it again. This repeated reading for different purposes is one strategy for building fluency. The student may also choose to just listen to an additional book that is at their interest level, but beyond their current reading level.

Each students’ work plan is personalized for them, so the exact programs may vary.
