Consider a Mentor or Coach to Help Reach Your Goals Faster

I’m a big advocate of asking for help when you find yourself struggling. This is true with regard to personal issues, work challenges, or relationship struggles. Trying to push through alone isn’t necessary and can make your life much more difficult than it needs to be. I know it can be hard to admit that you need some help, but doing so is often the best decision you’ll ever make. Enlisting the assistance of an expert is one way you can push through the obstacles on the way to achieving your dreams. I’ve learned that it is NOT a sign of weakness to seek this kind of expert help, but rather a sign of strength to recognize an area you need help, enlist assistance, and move toward it. I’d like to share with you how a mentor or coach can be helpful in reaching your goals faster.

Why Seek Assistance

There are some resolutions that are simply too challenging to face on our own. We may not have the expertise to obtain the results we hope to achieve without looking to others for advice or guidance. In addition, it may simply not be necessary to try to figure it all out on our own. If you have the resources to hire an expert, you can save yourself a ton of frustration and reach your destination faster. Another benefit of bringing in someone to help is that there are times we all need a cheerleader. You may be surprised to discover just how motivational it is to have someone in your corner who knows their stuff.

Types of Helpers

The type of expert you seek will obviously depend upon your specific goal, but I’d like to talk about a few of the more common ones to help you realize what’s out there. Weight loss coaches and personal trainers are great for those seeking to improve their health, fitness levels, and figures. Perhaps a business coach is what you need if you are looking to launch a startup company or take your business to the next level. A general life coach is someone who can help you to tackle personal development areas or interpersonal difficulties. A psychotherapist or counselor might even be someone you can turn to if you feel your mental health is holding you back from reaching your potential.

Where to Find Them

If you’re completely unsure of what type of expert you need, ask around or do a quick internet search. Your friends may be able to point you in the right direction or you could come across articles online about the type of expert you need. These sources are also good when it comes to obtaining references or testimonials. You don’t want to find out later that you’ve wasted your time and money on a scam artist or someone who doesn’t really know their stuff. It’s a wise idea to look for certification, affiliation with industry associations, or other signs that the person is professional.

How I’ve Used Mentors and Coaches

I have personally benefited from working with counselors at several points in my life to help me through depression episodes and to help me address issues that were holding me back. The past few years I have benefitted from working with a business coach to help me make more progress in growing my business skills faster than I could on my own. She also helps keep me accountable. I also belong to two mastermind groups related to my business where a professional coach guides a group of my entrepreneurial peers and I as we support one another on our journey. I also benefited from a more in-depth targeted mentorship program while working on writing my book.

Obtaining a mentor or coach, counselor or another type of professional guidance to help you along your journey isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s smart, actually, and will increase your chances of success. We all can use a little help sometimes.
