Our Intervention Specialist and our Writing and Student Success Coach both have a fair amount of experience working with students who have Asperger’s and autism. In fact, our Writing and Student Success Coach has homeschooled and/or used Wings to Soar Online Academy’s hybrid approach with her 19-year-old son who is on the autism spectrum since he was in kindergarten.
While we do have several students with Asperger’s and autism enrolled in Wings to Soar Online Academy, we want to be up front that this is not our primary area of focus. Our highly personalized approach to education can make our program a good choice for students with Asperger’s and autism IF the parent is willing to be highly involved. It is not reasonable or realistic to expect most students on the autism spectrum to be able to work in an online program without a significant amount of in-person support. Providing structure and clear expectations and accountability at home is hugely important for the success of students with Asperger’s and autism who are enrolled with us.
At Wings to Soar Online Academy, we work with you to create a customized package that includes the programs that are just right for your unique situation. If you have curriculum that is already working for a particular learning area, we respect that and don’t want you to feel you need to enroll in more than you need with us. We want to come alongside you to help you fill in the gaps of what isn’t working. Please explore the menu of possible online programs that we offer at Wings to Soar that we could include in your child’s Path to Success™ Personalized Learning Plan on our Learning Solutions page.
